Plug Talk: CCS vs. NACS – What You’ll Find at IONNA

Plug Talk: CCS vs. NACS – What You’ll Find at IONNA

Whether you’re new to the EV world, or a seasoned driver, it never hurts to go back to the basics. Today, we’re talking charging standards.

There are two common standards that have been widely adopted in North America: CCS (Combined Charging System) and NACS (North American Charging Standard). At IONNA, we ensure that whichever comes with your car, we’ve got you covered.

So, what’s the difference?

  • CCS is currently the most widely used connector among many EV models. Think of it as the veteran; reliable, proven, and everywhere.
  • NACS is the newer kid on the block, sleek and compact, and showing up on more and more vehicles each year.

Both do the same job: deliver fast, reliable charging so you can get back on the road. They just have different “outfits.”

What you’ll see at IONNA

We know plugs might be confusing at first glance, so we’ve made it simple:

  • Both CCS and NACS connectors are available at every IONNA site.
  • Plenty of signage along each bay to guide you as you pull up. Our signature ‘top hats’ overhead make it even easier to spot where to plug in.
  • Color coding to guide you:
    • Blue for CCS
    • Orange for NACS

PSA: Some older Tesla models (pre-2020) may need an upgrade before charging. Please check your Tesla Owners Manual for details on third-party charging.

The bottom line

At IONNA, it doesn’t matter if your EV speaks CCS or NACS because we speak both. And with our clear signs and bright color codes, finding your match is as easy as spotting your favorite color.
